Brainless and Naked

Never let it be said that Jetguy isn't a cool guy. On the Google groups he also made me aware that every time I turn on my bot I'm playing Russian roulette with my power regulator. But he also offered to do the quick mod that will fix it. So I've ripped the brain out of my Makerbot in order to ship it to him. (Yeah, I'm still not 100% confident in my skills of taking a soldering iron to my bot's motherboard.)

So I'm going to be unable to print for about a week until I get the motherboard back and back in my bot.

By the way, If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, taking cables apart that you want to be sure you can put them back together the right way, a quick trick is to take some masking tape, write on it where it connects, tear off twice what you need, and wrap it around the cable. In fact I may just leave these little labels on my cables.

Fortunately it's real easy to tell where these go because the Rep1 electronics are extremely well labeled. There's even some silly, fun stuff on there. I don't know if the new bot's electronics do the same thing, but it's a good reminder that once upon a time Makerbot was pretty cool. And it's still got a cool community surrounding it. People, like Jetguy, who are doing cool things and sharing their expertise with others.
