HIPS experiment 1

Got some HIPS from ToyBuilderLabs.com and I'm starting experiments with it. This is experiment #1 where I just dissolve a printed piece. Keeping it simple, but it was educational.

Conclusion: HIPS dissolves completely in d-Limonene, a orange peel extract solution for cleaning that can be slightly harder to get a hold of than, say, acetone. It does dissolve very well in a day, but it clouds the d-Limonene, so don't go using the whole container like I did. Stay tuned for part 2.

Here's a cheap way to make a magnetic stirer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LviLZToPx1c
    or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:187892

The thingiverse one looks pretty cool. For my part I'm probably going to get a Ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight so I don't have to figure out a way to suspend my object in the solution in case it falls while agitating so it doesn't disrupt the magnet. But first I need to get myself a filastruder, so the thingiverse option may be a good option.

He also notes that turpentine apparently disolves HIPS, which is good because Limonene is pretty expensive and hard to find:

So there may be another experiment with turpentine since I can get that on my way home today.
